How it works

Three steps, and the last one happens when you land.

  1. Pick your destination and plan

Choose the country or region, how many days, and how much data you need.

  2. Pay, and the QR code arrives by email

Your eSIM's QR code is in your inbox within minutes of payment, with install steps for iPhone and Android.

  3. Scan before you fly, switch on when you land

Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi. When you land, turn on the eSIM and data roaming for it, and you are online.

Three kinds of plan

Every plan is data only and lasts a set number of days. What differs is how the data is counted.

Example: 5 GB for 7 days

Fixed data

One allowance for the whole trip. Use it as fast or as slowly as you like until it runs out or the days end.

Best for: short trips, light use, or a heavy day now and then.

Example: 1 GB a day for 7 days

Daily data

A fresh allowance every 24 hours. However much you used yesterday, today starts full again.

Best for: longer trips with steady use: maps, messages, a little social.

Example: 7 days, 2 GB a day at full speed

Unlimited

No cap on how much you use. Past a daily fair-use amount the speed drops until the next day. Each plan states where that line is.

Best for: heavy use: streaming, video calls, working on the road.

Check that your phone takes an eSIM

Most recent phones do: iPhone XS, XR and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, among many others. Some phones sold locked to a carrier, or sold in mainland China, do not.

The quickest check: open your phone's settings and look for Add eSIM or Add mobile plan. If it is there, you are set.

Questions travelers ask

Will I keep my own number for calls and WhatsApp?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone, and you choose which line handles calls and texts. WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep your usual number and run over the eSIM's data. Calls and texts on your home line are billed by your home carrier, so turn its roaming off if you want no charges at all.

Is it data only?

Yes. Our travel eSIMs give you mobile data, not a local phone number. Calls and messages work through apps like WhatsApp over that data.

Where do your eSIMs come from?

They are issued by Xplori, an eSIM provider that works with mobile operators in each country we cover. We sell its plans under our own name and look after you ourselves. When you land, the eSIM joins a local operator's network as a roaming partner.

How it works and who runs eSIM Lounge

When does my plan start?

Not when you buy it, and not when you install it. The days start counting when the eSIM is first used in a country the plan covers. If your plan also covers the country you live in, it can connect at home, so install that kind on the day you leave. Each plan states its own rule before you pay.

How quickly does the QR code arrive?

By email, usually within a few minutes of payment, with the install steps for iPhone and Android.

Can I top up?

Not yet. If you run out, buy another plan for the same destination and install it beside the first one. Your phone can hold several eSIMs.

What if it does not work?

Write to support@esimlounge.com with your order email. Most problems are one setting: data roaming switched off for the eSIM, or the eSIM not chosen for mobile data. We will walk you through it.

Can I get a refund?

Not once the eSIM has been issued, because a QR code cannot be taken back once it has been sent. Checkout says so before you pay. If something goes wrong on our side, write to support@esimlounge.com.
