Stay online in Spain from the moment you land in Madrid, Barcelona or M谩laga. Every plan for Spain is a Europe eSIM: one data plan that also covers Portugal, France, Italy and the rest of a 30-country list, so a trip to Spain and Portugal needs one install. Install it before you fly and keep your usual number for calls and texts.

Which plan fits a Spain trip
Plans for Spain are regional Europe plans. One eSIM covers Spain and 29 other countries, and your data allowance is shared across all of them, so a trip that carries on to Portugal, France or Italy needs no second install. The plan cards above show what is available:
- A long weekend in Madrid or Barcelona: a 3 or 5 day plan with 1.5 GB a day.
- A week, such as Madrid, Seville and Granada by train: the 7 day plan with 1.5 GB a day.
- Two weeks or a road trip along the coast: the 15 day plan, or 30 days for a long stay.
- Remote work, streaming or sharing with a laptop: unlimited, for 3 to 15 days. Full speed for the first 5 GB each day, then slower until the next day.
- A stopover or a single day: the one-day plan with 0.6 GB.
On the daily plans, speed drops sharply once the day's 1.5 GB is used and comes back when the allowance resets. See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.
Coverage across Spain
Coverage is strong in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and M谩laga, along the coasts and along the high-speed AVE lines. The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza) and the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura) are part of Spain and run on Spanish networks, so they should work as on the mainland; check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com, before a trip that is only to the islands. Signal is thinner in the mountains, such as the Pyrenees and the Sierra Nevada, in the emptier inland areas of the center, and in long rail tunnels. Download offline maps before a road trip or a hike.
Spain and Portugal on one eSIM
Portugal, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are all on the Europe plan's list of 30 countries. Lisbon, Porto or a drive across the border into the Algarve need no second plan: the phone joins a local partner network when you cross, and the same allowance carries on. See eSIM for Europe for the whole list and what it leaves out.
Gibraltar, Andorra and Morocco
None of the three is on the Europe plan's list, and each has its own mobile operators. In Gibraltar, and along the bay near it, a phone can switch to a Gibraltar network; in Andorra it will join an Andorran one. If the eSIM stops working near Gibraltar, choose a Spanish network by hand in your phone's settings. All three, Morocco included for a ferry trip from Tarifa or Algeciras, are on the Global (170 countries) plan.
Arriving at the airport
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only and keep it off on your usual SIM. You can then check the train or metro into town, book a taxi or ride-hailing car, or message your hotel from the arrivals hall. Our airport guides cover Wi-Fi, SIM counters and getting online at Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El Prat. Flying in from outside the EU? Read entering Europe in 2026 for the new EES border checks.
How much data do you need?
Most visitors use about 1 GB a day for maps, messaging, photos and booking trains and tickets. Video calls, streaming and sharing your connection with a laptop push that up quickly. For a long stay with remote work, look at the unlimited plans.
eSIM or roaming?
If your phone plan is from an EU country, roaming in Spain is generally charged at home rates for normal use, so you may not need a travel eSIM at all. Travelers from the US usually pay a daily fee: AT&T's International Day Pass is $12 a day. See what your carrier charges in our guides to AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Mint Mobile, or the overview in travel eSIM vs international roaming.
How our Spain plans compare
Start from how much data you use in a day, then compare what the whole trip costs. The competitor plans below cover Spain alone, so check the country list if your trip carries on to Portugal or France. Our own prices are on the plan cards above, always current.
| Provider | One week | Two weeks | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| eSIM Lounge | 1.5 GB a day, or unlimited | 1.5 GB a day, or unlimited, for 15 days | Prices on the plan cards above. Every plan is a Europe plan, Portugal and France included, at no extra cost. Unlimited keeps full speed for the first 5 GB each day. |
| Airalo | 5 GB: $8.00. 10 GB: $13.00. Unlimited: $23.50 | 10 GB: $13.50. 20 GB: $19.00. Unlimited: $43.00 | Spain only, on Orange. Unlimited gives 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Its Europe unlimited plan costs $27.00 for 7 days. |
| Holafly | Unlimited: $24.50 | Unlimited: $45.90 | Spain only, on Orange, Movistar, Vodafone and Yoigo. No published daily limit, but hotspot sharing is capped at 1 GB a day. Its Europe plan costs $27.50 for 7 days and $51.50 for 15. |
| Nomad | Unlimited: $25.00. 10 GB for 30 days: $14.00 | 20 GB for 30 days: $21.00 | Spain only, on Movistar and Orange. Unlimited gives 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps, and stops at 10 days ($33.00). |
| Saily | 10 GB for 30 days: $15.99 | Unlimited for 15 days: $48.99. 20 GB for 30 days: $22.99 | No 7 day unlimited plan for Spain: the shortest is 10 days at $34.99, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Its Europe unlimited plan costs $28.99 for 7 days. |
| Ubigi | 10 GB for 8 days: $9.00. 5 GB a day: $18.00 | 5 GB a day for 15 days: $34.00. 25 GB for 30 days: $19.00 | Spain only. Its 5 GB a day plans slow to 2 Mbps after the day's allowance. |
Which to pick:
- A week of steady use: our 1.5 GB a day plan gives 10.5 GB over the week. When we checked, it cost less than Airalo's 10 GB at $13.00, Nomad's at $14.00 and Saily's at $15.99. Ubigi's 10 GB for 8 days at $9.00 was the cheapest we found, and a fixed amount lets you use more on one day and less on another. If 5 GB will do, Airalo's $8.00 plan is cheaper still.
- Two weeks: our 15 day plan gives 22.5 GB. When we checked, it cost less than Nomad's 20 GB ($21.00) and Saily's ($22.99), and a little more than Airalo's 20 GB for 15 days and Ubigi's 25 GB for 30 days, both $19.00. If you would rather have one pool of data than a daily allowance, those two are good buys.
- A week of unlimited: when we checked, ours cost less than Airalo ($23.50), Holafly ($24.50) and Nomad ($25.00), with full speed for 5 GB a day against Nomad's 2 GB. Ubigi's 5 GB a day plan at $18.00 cost a little less, for Spain alone.
- Two weeks of unlimited: when we checked, ours cost less than Ubigi ($34.00), Airalo ($43.00), Holafly ($45.90) and Saily ($48.99). Nomad's unlimited stops at 10 days. If you need more than 5 GB a day at full speed, Holafly publishes no daily limit.
- Spain and Portugal, or France: the competitor prices above are for Spain-only plans. To carry on across the border on one eSIM, their Europe unlimited plans cost more for a week: Airalo $27.00, Holafly $27.50 and Saily $28.99. Every plan of ours already covers both.
Competitor prices checked on 11 October 2026 in US dollars: Holafly on its own site; Airalo, Nomad, Saily and Ubigi on esimDB, because their sites showed prices in euros or would not load. They change often.
Networks in Spain
Spain's main mobile networks are Movistar, Vodafone, Orange and Digi. Orange merged with M谩sM贸vil in 2024, so Yoigo, a M谩sM贸vil brand, is now part of the same group. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.
How to install your eSIM
Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.
Check your phone
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.
Scan the QR code
Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.
Spain eSIM questions
What is the best eSIM for Spain?
It depends on how you use data. For most trips, a daily plan of 1.5 GB a day covers maps, messaging and photos; for remote work or streaming, an unlimited plan with a generous full-speed allowance fits better. If your trip also takes in Portugal or France, pick a Europe plan so one install covers every country. Every plan on this page also covers Portugal and France, and the comparison table above sets our plans against Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily and Ubigi.
Does an eSIM work in the Canary Islands and the Balearics?
They should. Both are part of Spain and run on Spanish networks, and our plans cover Spain. If your trip is only to the islands, check the plan details or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy. Coverage is good in the resorts and towns and can be thinner in the mountains and on remote beaches.
Can I use one eSIM for Spain and Portugal?
Yes. The Europe plan covers 30 countries, including Portugal, France, Italy and the United Kingdom, with one install and one shared allowance. Your phone joins a local partner network when you cross the border.
Do I need a Spanish SIM card?
Not for data. A travel eSIM installed at home works when you land, with no shop to find and no SIM to swap. The plans here are data only, with no Spanish phone number: if you need a local number for calls, a Spanish prepaid SIM is the way to get one.
Will my US phone work in Spain?
Yes, if it supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked: the 30-second check tells you. Your US carrier's roaming works too, usually for a daily fee: see our guides to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. With a travel eSIM you keep your US number for calls and texts and use the eSIM for data.
Does it work in Gibraltar, Andorra or Morocco?
Not on the Europe plan: none of the three is on its list. All three are on the Global (170 countries) plan. Near Gibraltar, choose a Spanish network by hand if your phone switches to a Gibraltar one.
