Free Wi-Fi at HND

The free network is HANEDA-FREE-WIFI, in all three terminals.

  • Select the network, open your browser and follow the on-screen steps.
  • It does not work inside shops, except lounges.
  • The airport says some areas are hard to connect from.

Buying a SIM card after arrivals

In Terminal 3, the 2F arrival lobby has two counters:

  • Mobile Center: pocket Wi-Fi rental and SIM cards, 6:30 to 23:00.
  • AnyFone JAPAN: rentals and prepaid SIM cards 6:00 to 23:00, prepaid smartphones 10:00 to 20:00.

One floor up, the 3F departure lobby has a second Mobile Center (6:30 to 23:00) and an XCom Global counter for Wi-Fi rental (6:30 to 22:30). Terminal 1 has an AnyFone JAPAN vending machine and a WiFiBOX; Terminal 2 has J WiFi & Mobile and Mobile Center. The airport does not publish prices.

eSIM plans for Japan

Install one at home before you fly and you are online when the wheels touch down, with no queue at a SIM counter.

Mobile networks in Japan

Japan has four mobile networks: NTT Docomo, KDDI (au), SoftBank and Rakuten Mobile. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. All four cover the cities and the main rail lines well; differences show up in the mountains, on the smaller islands and in rural Hokkaido. Japan has closed every 3G network, so phones now connect over 4G or 5G. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.

Tips for staying connected

  • If the 2F counters are busy, Mobile Center and XCom Global also have counters one floor up, on 3F.
  • If the Wi-Fi drops, move: the airport notes some areas connect poorly, and it does not work inside shops.
