Countries covered

One eSIM works in every one of them, with no swap at the border.

One plan for both countries

Many long trips to this side of the world take in both: a few weeks along Australia's east coast, then a road trip around New Zealand's South Island. This plan covers both with one install. If you are visiting Australia only, compare the plans on our Australia page. For New Zealand, this bundle is what we sell.

Which plan fits your trip

  • Daily data, 0.6 GB or 1.5 GB a day for 3, 5, 7 or 15 days, or 1.5 GB a day for 30 days. Suits steady use every day: maps, messages, bookings and photos. After the day's allowance, speed drops until it resets.
  • Unlimited, for 3, 5, 7 or 15 days. Suits heavy users, video calls and working on the road. A fair-use policy applies; the plan details say how.
  • A one-day plan with 0.6 GB, for a layover in Sydney or Auckland.

See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.

Coverage outside the cities

Both countries have strong coverage in the cities and along the main highways, and long stretches with none: the Australian outback, many national parks and New Zealand's alpine passes and remote coasts. Before a long drive, download an offline map and save your bookings, and tell someone your route if you head off the main roads.

Before you fly

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked: the 30-second check.
  2. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android.
  3. When you land, switch data roaming on for the eSIM line only.

Networks in Australia and New Zealand

The plan connects to a local partner network in each country, so data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. Coverage follows the local networks: strong in the cities and on the main highways, patchy or absent in the outback, the national parks and the mountains. Want to know which network a plan uses where? Ask us at support@esimlounge.com.

How to install your eSIM

Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.

  2. Scan the QR code

Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.

Australia and New Zealand eSIM questions

Which countries does the Australia and New Zealand plan cover?

Two: Australia and New Zealand. Fiji and the other Pacific islands are not included.

Do I need a separate eSIM for New Zealand?

Not with this plan. One install covers both countries, so your data keeps working when you fly across the Tasman.

Is an eSIM cheaper than my own carrier's roaming in Australia and New Zealand?

Usually, by a wide margin. UK and US carriers typically charge a daily pass for each day you use your phone abroad, and over a two or three week trip those passes cost several times more than a plan here. Check your own plan's roaming terms to compare.

Will it work in the outback and on remote roads?

Only where a local network reaches. Coverage is strong in the cities and on the main highways, but there are long stretches with no signal on any network. Download offline maps before a long drive.

Will I keep my phone number?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.

When does the plan start counting days?

On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in a covered country, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
