Stay online in Thailand from the moment you land in Bangkok, Phuket or Chiang Mai. Install a data eSIM before you fly, skip the SIM counter queue in arrivals, and keep your usual number for calls and texts while you use maps, Grab and messaging apps.

Which Thailand plan fits your trip
Thailand plans come in three shapes. The plan cards above show the days and data on sale:
- Daily data suits steady use: maps, ride-hailing, messaging and photos every day. Use is steady from day to day in Thailand, so this is the usual pick.
- Fixed data gives one allowance for the whole trip, to use heavily one day and lightly the next.
- Unlimited suits heavy users and remote work. A fair-use policy applies; the plan details say how.
See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.
Coverage in the cities and on the islands
Coverage is strong in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi and on the main islands such as Koh Samui. On smaller islands, in national parks and in the hills of the far north, it can be patchy on any network, and ferries often lose signal mid-crossing. Download offline maps of each island before you go, and save ferry tickets and hotel confirmations to your phone. More on this in our eSIM for Thailand guide.
Arriving at the airport
Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. When you land at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Don Mueang, Phuket or Chiang Mai, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only and keep it off on your usual SIM. You can then book a Grab, check the Airport Rail Link or message your hotel straight away, instead of queuing at a SIM counter after a long flight.
How much data do you need?
A typical traveler using maps, ride-hailing, messaging and photos uses about 1 GB a day. Video calls, streaming and sharing your connection with a laptop push that up. Remote workers and heavy social media users are better served by a larger daily allowance or an unlimited plan.
Visiting more than Thailand?
The Asia Pacific plan covers Thailand together with Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore and other destinations in one install, and the global plans cover it too. They suit a trip that continues across Southeast Asia: check the country list on the plan before you buy.
How our Thailand plans compare
Start from how much data you use in a day, then compare what the whole trip costs. On unlimited plans, check how much you get at full speed each day: that is where providers differ most. Our own prices are on the plan cards above, always current.
| Provider | One week | Two weeks | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| eSIM Lounge | 0.6 or 1.5 GB a day, or unlimited for 5 days | 0.6 or 1.5 GB a day, 60 GB, or unlimited | Prices on the plan cards above. Unlimited keeps full speed for the first 5 GB each day. No 7 day unlimited plan: the steps are 5 and 15 days. |
| Airalo | 5 GB: $7.00. 10 GB: $10.00. Unlimited: $21.00 | 10 GB: $10.50. 20 GB: $17.50. Unlimited: $39.00 | Unlimited slows to 1 Mbps after a daily allowance. Runs on True and can be topped up. |
| Holafly | Unlimited: $27.50 | Unlimited: $50.50 | Unlimited only, on True and dtac. Hotspot sharing is capped at 1 GB a day, and fair use can slow you for up to a day. |
| Nomad | 1 GB: $5.00. Unlimited for 10 days: $15.00. 10 GB for 30 days: $10.00 | 50 GB for 10 days: $15.00. Unlimited for 30 days: $33.00 | Unlimited gives 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. No 7 or 15 day unlimited plan. Connects to True, AIS or dtac. |
| Saily | 1 GB: $2.99. Unlimited: $28.99. 10 GB for 30 days: $10.99 | Unlimited: $48.99. 20 GB for 30 days: $19.99 | Unlimited gives 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Ad blocking and web protection are built into the app. |
Which to pick:
- A light week: if 1 GB covers the whole trip, Saily's $2.99 plan is the cheapest we found. Our 0.6 GB a day plan gives 4.2 GB over the week.
- A week of steady use: our 1.5 GB a day plan gives 10.5 GB over the week. When we checked, none of the four sold that much for less: Airalo's 10 GB was $10.00, Nomad's $10.00 and Saily's $10.99.
- Two weeks: our 15 day plan gives 22.5 GB, and it cost less than Airalo's 20 GB at $17.50 or Saily's at $19.99. If you would rather not count, our 60 GB plan covers heavy use for the whole fortnight.
- A week of unlimited: we sell 5 or 15 days, not 7. For 5 days, Airalo's $15.00 plan cost less than ours when we checked. Nomad's 10 day plan at $15.00 is the cheapest week we found if 2 GB a day at full speed is enough.
- Two weeks of unlimited: when we checked, ours cost less than the 15 day plans from Airalo ($39.00), Saily ($48.99) and Holafly ($50.50). Nomad's 30 day plan at $33.00 runs longer but slows after 2 GB a day.
Competitor prices checked on 10 October 2026 in US dollars, on each provider's site or, where it would not load or would not show the plan in US dollars, on esimDB. They change often.
Networks in Thailand
Thailand's two main mobile operators are AIS and True, which merged with dtac. Both cover Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and the main islands well. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.
How to install your eSIM
Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.
Check your phone
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.
Scan the QR code
Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.
Thailand eSIM questions
Is an eSIM better than buying a SIM at the airport?
For data, it is simpler: you set it up at home, skip the counter queue and keep your usual SIM in the phone. A tourist SIM from the airport counter gives you a Thai phone number, which a travel eSIM does not. If you need a local number, buy one; for maps and messaging, the eSIM does the job.
Does the eSIM work on Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the smaller islands?
Yes, the islands are served by Thai networks. Coverage is good in the main villages and around the piers and can be weak on remote beaches and viewpoints. Download offline maps before you go.
Can I use it in Cambodia, Laos or Malaysia?
A Thailand plan works in Thailand only. For a trip across several countries, the Asia Pacific plan covers Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam and more with one install.
Will I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees.
When does the plan start counting days?
On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Thailand, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
