Which versions of the iPhone 13 mini have no eSIM

Versions sold in mainland China have no eSIM: Apple lists eSIM support there only for a few recent models (Apple Support). Versions sold in Hong Kong and Macao do have a nano-SIM and an eSIM, unlike the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro sold there (Apple Support).

What to know about the iPhone 13 mini

Two eSIMs active at once. The iPhone 13 mini supports Dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM, and also with two eSIMs: Apple says iPhone 13 models and later can run two eSIM lines at the same time (Apple Support). So your home line, card or eSIM, stays on for calls and texts while a travel eSIM carries your data, with nothing to swap. Only one line uses cellular data at a time.

Check yours. Open Settings > General > About and scroll down: an iPhone with eSIM lists an EID there (Apple Support). No EID means a version without eSIM.

Locked or not. Apple notes that eSIM may be disabled on an iPhone bought from some carriers, so make sure yours is unlocked first: the 30-second check. Then install a travel eSIM on iPhone.

Check your own iPhone 13 mini

Two minutes on the phone itself settles it, whichever version you have.

  1. Dial *#06#

    Open the phone app and dial *#06#. If a number labelled EID appears, your phone supports eSIM.

  2. On an iPhone

    Go to Settings, then Cellular (or Mobile Data). If you see Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan, it supports eSIM.

  3. Check it is unlocked

    A phone bought from a carrier on contract may be locked to it. Ask your carrier, or look for a Carrier Lock line in your settings that says No SIM restrictions.
