Boost Mobile international roaming (2026): what works abroad and what it costs

Boost Mobile works abroad through two add-ons. Global Roaming costs $10 a month and gives you 1 GB of data plus talk and text in the 90+ destinations on Boost's list, with more data at $10 per GB. North America Connect costs $10 a month, or is included on Unlimited Premium, and gives you unlimited talk and text across North America plus 5 GB of data a month in Mexico and Canada. Only one current plan, Global Connection, includes any roaming data elsewhere: 1 GB.

That is enough for a short trip where you mostly use Wi-Fi. For a week or more of maps, rides and messaging abroad, 1 GB goes fast, and buying data at $10 a gigabyte adds up. A travel eSIM for data alongside your Boost line is usually the better buy, as long as your Boost phone is unlocked.

A week in Europe? With Global Roaming, 7 GB comes to $70. Our 7-day Europe plan with 1.5 GB a day costs $11.99, and 7 days of unlimited data $19.99.

Boost in 2026: what changed

Boost has been through a lot of change, so older articles about it may be out of date:

  • Network. Boost's owner, EchoStar, moved every Boost customer onto AT&T's network on 15 November 2025. Boost still runs its own core network, but your phone now connects through AT&T's towers at home. Abroad you roam on partner networks, and Boost says speeds depend on the local carrier.
  • Plans. The Infinite Access plans (the $65 plans that came with a financed iPhone or Galaxy) closed to new lines on 30 June 2026 (14 July 2026 if you bought through Apple). Existing Infinite Access customers keep their benefits, including North America Connect. Boost now sells four plans: Unlimited, Global Connection, Unlimited+ and Unlimited Premium.
  • Global Roaming is still labeled "early access". Boost calls the $10 price introductory and says offers and features may change. Check the Boost app before every trip.

What each Boost plan includes abroad

Plan Monthly price (with AutoPay) Outside North America Mexico and Canada
Unlimited $25 ($10 for the first 6 months) Nothing included. Global Roaming add-on, $10 a month Nothing included. North America Connect add-on, $10 a month
Global Connection $40 Global Roaming included: 1 GB of data, talk and text Mexico and Canada are on the Global Roaming list, so the same 1 GB applies
Unlimited+ $50 Nothing included. Global Roaming add-on Nothing included. North America Connect add-on
Unlimited Premium $60 Nothing included. Global Roaming add-on North America Connect included: unlimited talk and text, 5 GB of data a month
Infinite Access (closed to new lines) $65 No roaming data listed North America Connect included

Each plan costs $5 more without AutoPay. Global Connection, Unlimited+ and Unlimited Premium also include Global Talk & Text: unlimited calls from the US to more than 100 countries and texts to 191+. That is calling from home, not roaming: it does not cover using your phone abroad.

Boost's add-on pages say they need a "compatible device and plan" without naming the plans, so open Manage Add-Ons in the Boost app to see what your line can add.

Global Roaming: how it works and what it costs

From Boost's Global Roaming pages:

  • $10 a month per line, billed from the day you switch it on until the end of the billing cycle in which you switch it off. It stays on until you turn it off, so remember to disable it when you get home.
  • 1 GB of data a month, plus talk and text within your destination and back to the US.
  • More data costs $10 per GB, up to 9 extra GB in a billing cycle. Data you add lasts 30 days.
  • When the data runs out, it stops. Boost says that after 1 GB, data service ends until the next billing period, unless you buy more. There is no slow "unlimited" fallback.
  • Turn it on before you fly. In the Boost app: Manage Add-Ons, then Enable Global Roaming, then Confirm & Add. If you land without it, Boost asks you to call customer care on +1-303-557-7090.
  • Prepaid users need enough funds on the account before they leave, including any extra data.

Boost's terms add that roaming is for trips, not for people who move abroad or stay for long periods, and that it can block or remove Global Roaming for excessive use.

Which countries Global Roaming covers

Boost says 90+ destinations. Its published list (last updated 7 July 2026) has 92 entries, including Canada, Mexico, the UK (listed as England, Scotland and Wales), France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

Several popular destinations are missing from that list as of 11 October 2026, among them Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, South Africa, Chile, Morocco, Malta, Cyprus and Hungary. Boost says more destinations may be available depending on your SIM card or device, which makes the published list hard to rely on. Before you travel, check every country of your trip in the Boost app (Recommended Add-Ons, then Global Roaming, then the destination list) or call Boost.

What happens without the add-on

Boost does not say. Its plan, add-on and help pages publish no pay-per-use roaming rates, and its Global Roaming terms describe roaming only as part of the add-on. Plan on your Boost line having no data abroad unless Global Roaming (or North America Connect, in Mexico and Canada) is on, and ask Boost before you rely on anything else. Its own Global Roaming page suggests Wi-Fi calling apps or an international eSIM as alternatives.

Does Boost Mobile work in Mexico and Canada?

Yes, in two ways.

North America Connect is the add-on built for it: $10 a month, included on Unlimited Premium and Infinite Access. It gives you:

  • unlimited talk and text across North America while roaming,
  • unlimited talk and text from the US to Mexican and Canadian numbers,
  • 5 GB of data a month while roaming in Mexico and Canada.

Once the 5 GB is used, Boost says you can no longer get online, though calls and texts keep working. You can buy more at $10 per GB, up to 9 extra GB. Data roaming must be switched on in your phone's settings. Boost also says your main use must be in the US, and that roaming in Mexico cannot exceed 50% of your total usage over time.

Global Roaming also lists Mexico and Canada, so on Global Connection your included 1 GB works there too.

What a trip costs with Boost

Using Boost's own prices, and about 1 GB of data a day:

  • A week in Mexico on Unlimited Premium: 5 GB included, plus 2 GB at $10 each = $20 on top of your plan. On a plan without North America Connect, add $10 for the add-on: $30.
  • A week in Europe with Global Roaming: $10 for the first 1 GB, plus 6 GB at $10 each = $70. On Global Connection, where the first 1 GB is included: $60.
  • Two weeks in Europe: the most you can have in one billing cycle is 10 GB (1 GB plus 9 extra), which costs $100 and is still short of 1 GB a day. A trip that crosses into a new billing cycle can buy more.

A couple traveling together pays for each line.

When a travel eSIM is the better buy

A travel eSIM is a second, data-only line on your phone, bought for one country or region and sized for the trip. Your Boost number stays on the phone. It usually wins when:

  • You need more than 1 GB. Global Roaming's data costs $10 a gigabyte after the first, and it stops when it runs out. A travel eSIM is priced for the whole trip, with daily, fixed or unlimited data.
  • You are away for more than a few days. For a two-week Europe trip, our 15-day Europe plans (1.5 GB a day, or unlimited) each cost less than the $100 Boost charges for its 10 GB maximum, as of 11 October 2026.
  • Your destination is not on Boost's list. Italy, the UAE, South Africa and Taiwan were missing when we checked.
  • You use more than 5 GB in Mexico or Canada in a month, past what North America Connect includes.

Boost is enough when you are in Mexico or Canada on Unlimited Premium and stay under 5 GB, or on a short trip where you mostly use hotel Wi-Fi and want calls and texts on your Boost number. Compare our Europe eSIM plans, the Mexico eSIM page or the Canada eSIM page with the numbers above for your own dates.

Your Boost phone must be unlocked

A travel eSIM needs a phone that takes an eSIM and is not locked to Boost. Boost's unlocking policy has two cases:

  • Prepaid devices are unlocked one year after first activation, automatically and for free, within two business days of becoming eligible. A financed device must be paid off first, and an account that is suspended at the one-year mark waits until the suspension ends.
  • Postpaid devices are unlocked once you finish the financing plan (a device paid in full is eligible right away), again automatically within two business days.

If you are not sure, call Boost on 833-50-BOOST (833-502-6678), and check your phone in 30 seconds before you buy an eSIM. Boost itself makes the same point: its Global Roaming page says an international eSIM needs an unlocked phone.

On eSIM support, Boost lists all US models of iPhone 12 and newer, the Galaxy S22 to S26 series and recent Galaxy Z Fold, Z Flip and A models, the Pixel 9a and Pixel 10 series, and several recent Motorola phones (list updated 6 October 2026).

Setting it up: Boost for your number, an eSIM for data

  1. Make sure your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked: the 30-second check.
  2. Install the travel eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android.
  3. When you land, set the eSIM as the line for cellular data and turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
  4. On your Boost line, turn data roaming off, and on iPhone turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching, so the phone never falls back to Boost for data.
  5. If you do not need Boost's roaming add-ons for calls, leave them off and call home with WhatsApp, iMessage or FaceTime over the eSIM's data. If you switch one on, remember it bills monthly until you turn it off.

What is data roaming? explains the setting itself, and travel eSIM vs international roaming compares the two approaches across carriers. Since Boost now runs on AT&T's network at home, our AT&T international roaming guide is a useful comparison, as are the T-Mobile, Visible and Mint Mobile guides.

FAQ

Does Boost Mobile have international roaming?

Yes, through the Global Roaming add-on: $10 a month for 1 GB of data plus talk and text in the 90+ destinations on Boost's list, with more data at $10 per GB, up to 9 extra GB a billing cycle. The Global Connection plan includes it. Prices as of 11 October 2026.

Does Boost Mobile work in Mexico?

Yes. North America Connect, $10 a month or included on Unlimited Premium and Infinite Access, gives unlimited talk and text and 5 GB of data a month in Mexico and Canada. Mexico is also on the Global Roaming list. Boost says roaming in Mexico cannot exceed 50% of your usage over time.

Does Boost Mobile work in Canada?

Yes, on the same terms as Mexico: North America Connect includes unlimited talk and text and 5 GB of data a month, and Canada is also on the Global Roaming list.

Does Boost Mobile work in Italy?

Italy was not on Boost's published Global Roaming list when we checked on 11 October 2026, although Boost says more destinations may be available depending on your SIM or device. Check the destination list in the Boost app before you go, and consider a Europe eSIM if Italy does not show.

What happens when my Boost roaming data runs out?

It stops. On Global Roaming, Boost says data ends until the next billing period unless you buy more at $10 per GB; North America Connect works the same way in Mexico and Canada, where Boost says calls and texts keep working. There is no slow-speed fallback.

Is Boost Mobile on AT&T now?

Yes. EchoStar moved all Boost customers onto AT&T's network on 15 November 2025, while keeping its own core network. That changes coverage at home, not the price of roaming abroad, which is set by Boost's add-ons.

Can I use a travel eSIM with Boost Mobile?

Yes, if your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked. Boost unlocks prepaid devices one year after activation and postpaid devices once financing is paid off. Keep your Boost line for your number and set the travel eSIM as the data line.
