On a Freedom Mobile monthly plan, the US usually costs nothing extra. Freedom's plans include data, calls and texts in Canada, the US and Mexico, with no daily roaming fee. For 120+ other destinations, plans with Roam Beyond include a monthly roaming data bucket, from 1 GB on the cheapest plans to 50 GB on the top one, and you can add a travel pass when it runs out.
So most Freedom customers do not need anything for a US trip. A travel eSIM makes sense if you are on a plan or prepaid offer that does not include the US, need data on a second device, or are going further and your Roam Beyond bucket is small: our US eSIM costs US$11.99 (about C$16.87) for 7 days with 1.5 GB a day.
Canadian dollar amounts for our plans use 1 US$ = C$1.4074 (European Central Bank rate, 19 October 2026). Your card may convert at a slightly different rate. Freedom's prices are in Canadian dollars.
What Freedom includes in the US and Mexico
Every plan on Freedom's plans page, checked on 20 October 2026, lists its data "in Canada-U.S.-Mexico", with unlimited data at reduced speeds after the allowance, and unlimited talk and text in Canada and 120+ global destinations. Prices below are with Freedom's Digital Discount:

|---|---|---|
| $35 | 10 GB | 1 GB |
| $40 | 70 GB | 1 GB |
| $45 | 125 GB | 5 GB |
| $50 | 175 GB | 10 GB |
| $60 | 250 GB | 10 GB |
| $70 | 250 GB | 20 GB |
| $80 | 250 GB | 30 GB |

Prepaid is different. Freedom lists its prepaid plans separately, and not all prepaid offers clearly include the US. If you are on prepaid, check whether yours covers the US before you cross the border.
Roam Beyond outside North America
On plans with Roam Beyond, Freedom says you get data plus unlimited talk and text in 120+ destinations, "with no daily roaming fees". Once your monthly Roam Beyond bucket is used, data stops in those destinations until you buy a travel pass. Freedom's Roam Beyond page says 30-day passes start at $30; the full price list is in the Freedom shop.
That bucket is generous on the higher plans and tight on the cheaper ones: 1 GB on the $35 and $40 plans is enough for maps and messages for a day or two, not a week of travel.
When a travel eSIM makes sense with Freedom
| Your situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| Monthly plan, trip to the US or Mexico | Your Freedom plan: nothing to buy |
| Prepaid offer without the US | US eSIM: US$11.99 (C$16.87) for 7 days, US$23.99 (C$33.76) for 30 days |
| A tablet or a second phone in the US | US eSIM on that device |
| A week in Europe on a 1 GB or 5 GB Roam Beyond bucket | Europe eSIM: US$11.99 (C$16.87) for 7 days, 1.5 GB a day, 30 countries |
| Two weeks in Europe | Europe eSIM US$19.99 (C$28.13) for 15 days, or a Freedom pass from $30 |
| A higher plan with 20 GB or more of Roam Beyond | Your Freedom plan, unless you use a lot of data |
Snowbirds: a Freedom plan's US data comes out of the same monthly allowance you use at home. On the $35 plan's 10 GB, a winter month in Florida with maps, video calls and streaming can run out; the larger plans have far more room. If you stay on the $35 plan, a US eSIM at US$23.99 (C$33.76) for 30 days adds 1.5 GB a day. Freedom's plans are designed for travel, so check your plan's terms on long stays outside Canada.
Using a travel eSIM with your Freedom phone
- Check your phone takes an eSIM and is unlocked: is my phone unlocked? Under the CRTC's Wireless Code, phones sold in Canada since 1 December 2017 must be supplied unlocked, and older ones can be unlocked free on request.
- Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android.
- When you arrive, set the eSIM as your data line and turn data roaming off on your Freedom line if you want to keep your Roam Beyond data for later.
- If it shows No Service, see eSIM not working abroad.

FAQ
Does Freedom Mobile work in the US?
Yes. Freedom's monthly plans include data, calls and texts in Canada, the US and Mexico, with no daily roaming fee. Data in the US comes out of your plan's monthly allowance. Prepaid offers vary, so check yours.
How much does Freedom Mobile charge for roaming?
In the US and Mexico, nothing extra on monthly plans. In Roam Beyond's 120+ other destinations, your plan includes a monthly bucket from 1 GB to 50 GB with no daily fee; after that, travel passes start at $30 for 30 days.
What is Freedom Roam Beyond?
Freedom's roaming feature for 120+ destinations outside Canada, the US and Mexico. It gives your plan's Roam Beyond data plus unlimited talk and text there, with no daily roaming fees, and stops data when the bucket runs out unless you buy a pass.
Do I need an eSIM for the US with Freedom Mobile?
Not on a monthly plan that includes the US, which is all of Freedom's current monthly plans. An eSIM helps on prepaid offers without the US, on a second device, or when your plan's data is too small for a long stay.
Is an eSIM cheaper than Roam Beyond in Europe?
If your Roam Beyond bucket is 1 GB or 5 GB, usually yes for a week or more: our Europe eSIM costs US$11.99 (about C$16.87) for 7 days with 1.5 GB a day. On plans with 20 GB or more of Roam Beyond, your Freedom plan already covers most trips.
