Fido Roam costs C$16 a day in the US and C$18 a day in international destinations. It uses your Fido plan's data, talk and text abroad, and a day starts the first time your phone uses a network outside Canada. For longer trips, Fido's US travel passes cost C$50 for 7 days and C$80 for 30 days, the same as Rogers, which owns Fido.
For data alone, a US eSIM is cheaper: US$11.99 (about C$16.87) for 7 days with 1.5 GB a day, and your Fido number stays on for calls and texts.

On cruise ships, data runs at full speed for the first 1 GB in each 24 hours, then at reduced speed. Travel passes can be bought up to 60 days before you leave.
How a Fido Roam day starts
Fido says to text ROAM to 222 to enroll, then turn on data roaming. From then on, a day is charged the first time your phone uses a network outside Canada, for a call, a sent text or data, including background app updates. The day runs until 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. You get a free welcome text on arrival; if Fido Roam is not available on your plan or in that destination, it lists the pay-per-use rates instead.
Near the border, your phone can join a US network while you are still in Canada. If you live near Windsor, Niagara or the BC border, turn off data roaming on your Fido line when you don't mean to roam.

The Fido pass also covers calls and texts on your Fido number; our eSIM is data only. If you call with WhatsApp, FaceTime or Wi-Fi calling, the eSIM covers what you need for less than half the price of the pass.
How to avoid Fido roaming charges
- Check your phone is unlocked before you buy anything: how to check.
- Install a US eSIM at home on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android, and set it as your data line.
- Turn data roaming off on your Fido line. Keep the line on so texts, including bank codes, still reach you.
- Call over Wi-Fi or apps. A call or a sent text on your Fido line in the US can still start a C$16 day.
