This guide is about Boost Mobile in Australia, the prepaid brand on the Telstra network. Boost roaming works only with an International Roaming Pack: $20 for 2 GB over 3 days, $30 for 5 GB over 7 days or $40 for 7 GB over 14 days, each with some calls and texts. The packs work in the 42 countries Boost lists, including Bali, Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, the USA, Vietnam, Fiji and Singapore, and a pack starts the moment you buy it. The 14 day pack is fair value for a fortnight away. For heavy data, a longer trip or a country Boost does not list (the United Kingdom is not on it), a travel eSIM for data next to your Boost number usually works out better.
Going to London or touring Europe? Boost's list has no roaming in the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and its Large pack is AUD $40 for 7 GB over 14 days. Our Europe plan covers both, with 30 countries on one eSIM: 1.5 GB a day for 15 days, 22.5 GB in all, costs US$19.99, and you keep your Boost number.
Does Boost Mobile work overseas?
Yes, with a pack. Boost says international roaming only works when you buy an International Roaming Pack, in selected countries only. If your destination is not covered, roaming will not work there.
The good news is that there is little to set up:
- Roaming is already on. Boost says international roaming is automatically turned on for all Boost customers, so you do not need to switch anything on in the My Boost app. You may need to turn on roaming in your phone's settings if you turned it off.
- No recharge needed. You do not need an active recharge to buy a roaming pack, though you do need an active Boost SIM and an eligible plan.
- Not on cruise ships. Ships use satellite services, which the packs do not cover.
Boost runs on the Telstra Prepaid mobile network at home, and it sells eSIMs as well as physical SIMs.
Boost International Roaming Packs and prices
| Pack | Price | Data | Calls and texts | Valid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | $20 | 2 GB | 15 minutes, 15 texts | 3 days |
| Medium | $30 | 5 GB | 30 minutes, 30 texts | 7 days |
| Large | $40 | 7 GB | 60 minutes, 60 texts | 14 days |
Call minutes include incoming and outgoing calls. Premium, satellite and video calls and messages are excluded. Listening to MessageBank also uses your pack's minutes.
How the packs work, from Boost's roaming page and FAQs:
- The clock starts at purchase. A pack is active from the moment you buy it and expires at the same time of day on its last day, in Australian Eastern time. Buy it in Australia and some of the validity goes on the flight. Boost suggests buying on arrival, over Wi-Fi.
- Buy in the My Boost Mobile app. Boost says the app is the best way, and that the recharge option on the Boost website may not work for buying a pack while you are overseas. Its roaming page also mentions recharge.boost.com.au over Wi-Fi.
- Packs stack. You can have several active at once; the one that expires first is used first.
- Nothing rolls over. Unused data, calls and texts are lost when the pack expires.
- Usage alerts come by free SMS at 50%, 85% and 100% of your inclusions.
Where Boost roaming works
Boost's page says 42 countries. The list it shows (41 names, as of 14 October 2026):
| Region | Countries |
|---|---|
| Asia | China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam |
| Pacific | Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu |
| Europe | Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey |
| Americas | Canada, USA |
| Middle East | Israel, Qatar |
Notably missing: the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia and Laos. On Boost's own list, a trip to London or a Europe tour through Switzerland has no roaming at all.
What a trip costs with Boost
10 days in Bali. One Large pack covers it: $40 for 7 GB, about 700 MB a day, plus 60 minutes and 60 texts. Two Medium packs would cost $60 for the same stretch.
Two weeks in Japan. One Large pack, $40 for 7 GB, lasts exactly 14 days. Heavy map and train app use can get through 7 GB, in which case a Medium pack on top adds $30 for 5 GB.
A long weekend in Fiji or New Zealand. One Small pack: $20 for 2 GB over 3 days.
Three weeks in Europe. A Large pack plus a Medium pack, $70 for 12 GB, provided every country on the route is on Boost's list. London is not.
The Large pack works out at under $3 a day, which Boost itself advertises. The Small pack, at about $6.67 a day, is the expensive way to roam.
When a travel eSIM is cheaper
Boost's Large pack is decent value for a two week trip in a covered country. A travel eSIM tends to win when:
- You go to the UK or anywhere else Boost does not list. There is no roaming at all there on Boost.
- The trip is longer than two weeks. Boost has no pack longer than 14 days, so a month away means stacking packs.
- You need more than 7 GB a fortnight. Each extra 5 GB is another $30. Travel eSIMs come in larger fixed, daily and unlimited sizes.
- You only need data. If you call home on WhatsApp or FaceTime, you are paying for minutes you will not use.
A travel eSIM needs a phone that takes an eSIM and is not locked to a carrier: check yours in 30 seconds. For how the two approaches charge you in general, see travel eSIM vs international roaming. For a European trip, our Europe eSIM page lists the countries each regional plan covers; for Bangkok and the islands, see Thailand.
How to use Boost and a travel eSIM together
Keep your Boost SIM for your Australian number, and let the eSIM carry the data.
- Install the travel eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android.
- When you land, set the eSIM as the line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for the eSIM only.
- Leave data roaming off on your Boost line.
- If you need calls and texts on your Boost number, add a pack for its minutes and texts. If not, use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM's data.
Boost's pages do not say whether Wi-Fi Calling works for normal calls overseas. They do say emergency calls over Wi-Fi Calling are not supported outside Australia, so use the mobile network for those. For help while abroad, Boost's overseas number, +61 439 125 881, works without a pack.

FAQ
Does Boost Mobile work overseas?
Yes, with an International Roaming Pack: $20 for 2 GB over 3 days, $30 for 5 GB over 7 days or $40 for 7 GB over 14 days, as of October 2026. Boost says roaming only works with a pack and only in the countries it lists.
Does Boost Mobile work in Bali?
Yes. Indonesia is on Boost's list of roaming countries as of October 2026. Buy a pack in the My Boost Mobile app, ideally on arrival over Wi-Fi, since the pack starts the moment you buy it. The $40 Large pack covers 14 days.
How much is Boost international roaming?
$20, $30 or $40 per pack as of October 2026. Small is 2 GB, 15 minutes and 15 texts for 3 days; Medium is 5 GB, 30 minutes and 30 texts for 7 days; Large is 7 GB, 60 minutes and 60 texts for 14 days.
Do I need to turn on international roaming with Boost?
Not in your Boost account: Boost says roaming is already on for all customers. You may need to turn on data roaming in your phone's settings, and you need to buy a pack before anything works abroad.
Does Boost Mobile work in the UK?
No, not on Boost's own country list as of 14 October 2026. The United Kingdom is not among the countries it shows for its roaming packs, so a travel eSIM is the way to get data in London.
Can I buy a Boost roaming pack before I leave Australia?
Yes, but it starts straight away, so part of its validity goes on the trip there. Boost suggests buying on arrival in the My Boost Mobile app, over Wi-Fi.
