ALDI Mobile roaming is not included in any plan, but its Roaming Packs are some of the cheapest in Australia: from $5 for 1 GB in the Pacific and $8 for 1 GB in Asia, up to $30 for 5 GB with calls and texts worldwide. Every pack lasts 7 days and starts the moment you buy it. You must switch international roaming on in My ALDI Mobile first, ideally before you leave Australia. Without a pack, pay-as-you-go roaming costs $0.50 per MB. For a light user on a short trip the packs are excellent value. For heavy data, a long stay or a trip to Vietnam, a travel eSIM for data alongside your ALDI number usually works out better.
A week in Bali and you use more than 1 GB? ALDI's Global Travel Pack is AUD $30 for 5 GB over 7 days. Our Indonesia plan with 1.5 GB a day for 7 days, 10.5 GB in all, costs US$10.99, and you keep your ALDI number for calls and texts.
Does ALDI Mobile work overseas?
Yes, once you enable it. ALDI's roaming page says charges for using your service overseas are not included in any of its plans, and that you need to switch international roaming on: log in to My ALDI Mobile, choose International Roaming from the manage account menu and set your preference. ALDI strongly recommends doing this in Australia before you leave.
To buy a Roaming Pack you need an active Mobile Plan, Long Life Plan, Family Plan or Super Pack. Packs are bought online at My ALDI Mobile with a card or PayPal. ALDI says they cannot currently be bought or viewed in the ALDI Mobile app.
ALDI Mobile runs on the Telstra Wholesale network at home, and it sells eSIMs as well as physical SIMs.

Where each pack works, from ALDI's Critical Information Summary (last updated 25 March 2026):
- Pacific: Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu.
- Asia: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.
- North America: Canada, Mexico, the United States.
- Global Data: 69 countries, including all the main trips above, the UK, most of Europe, the UAE, Türkiye, Brazil, Chile and South Africa.
- Global Travel: 47 countries, including Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, the USA, Vietnam, Fiji, Singapore and much of Europe. It does not include Mexico, Cambodia, Samoa or Tonga.
The rules, from ALDI's Roaming Packs page:
- The pack starts when you buy it and expires at midnight Australian Eastern Time 7 days later, wherever you are. So buy it just before you fly, not a week early.
- Nothing rolls over. Unused data, calls and SMS are lost when the pack ends.
- Buying the same pack again replaces it. Anything left on the old one is forfeited.
- Limits: up to 2 data packs and 2 travel packs in one calendar day.
- Calls count both ways on the Global Travel Pack, in 60 second blocks.
- Receiving SMS overseas is free, with or without a pack.
Pay-as-you-go roaming rates
Outside a pack's inclusions, or in a country your pack does not cover, ALDI charges its standard pay-as-you-go roaming rates. For its top ten destinations, ALDI's International Roaming Information sheet (last updated 4 May 2026) lists:
| Destination | Make a call | Receive a call | Send SMS | Receive SMS | Data |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indonesia, New Zealand, USA, Japan, Thailand, India, China, Malaysia, Philippines | $1.00 a minute | $1.00 a minute | $0.50 | Free | $0.50 per MB |
| Vietnam | Not available | Not available | Not available | Free | Not available |
At $0.50 per MB, 1 GB of pay-as-you-go data would cost over $500. Never roam on data without a pack.
Vietnam is a special case. The same sheet says that on pay-as-you-go you cannot make or receive calls, send SMS or use data in Vietnam, only receive SMS. Vietnam is listed in the Asia, Global Data and Global Travel packs. If Vietnam is your trip, check with ALDI before you rely on roaming there, or bring a travel eSIM.
What a trip costs with ALDI Mobile
10 days in Bali. Two Asia Data Packs, one for each week: $16 for 2 GB in total. Very cheap, but 1 GB a week is light: think messages and the odd map. Two Global Travel Packs instead cost $60 for 10 GB plus calls and texts.
Two weeks in Japan. Two Asia Data Packs, $16 for 2 GB, or two Global Travel Packs, $60 for 10 GB. A traveller who leans on maps, train apps and translation will want the bigger one.
A week in New Zealand or Fiji. One Pacific Data Pack: $5 for 1 GB.
Two weeks in the USA. Two North America Data Packs: $10 for 4 GB.
Because every pack runs out after 7 days, you buy one per week of travel, and you need Wi-Fi or data left to buy the next.
When a travel eSIM is cheaper
ALDI's data packs are hard to beat for a light user on a one or two week trip, especially in the Pacific and North America. A travel eSIM tends to win when:
- You need more than 1 or 2 GB a week. Beyond the data packs, the next step is the $30 Global Travel Pack, and a heavy user may need more than one a week. Travel eSIMs come in larger fixed, daily and unlimited sizes.
- You are going to Vietnam, given ALDI's own warning that pay-as-you-go roaming does not work there.
- The trip is long. A month away means four or five packs, each bought on the right day.
- Your destination is outside the packs, where only $0.50 per MB pay-as-you-go applies.
A travel eSIM needs a phone that takes an eSIM and is not locked to a carrier: check yours in 30 seconds. For how the two approaches charge you in general, see travel eSIM vs international roaming. Our Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan pages compare the plans.
How to use ALDI Mobile and a travel eSIM together
Keep your ALDI SIM for your number, and let the eSIM carry the data.
- Install the travel eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi: iPhone or Android.
- When you land, set the eSIM as the line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for the eSIM only.
- Leave data roaming off on your ALDI line. Without a pack, any data it uses costs $0.50 per MB.
- Use Wi-Fi Calling for your ALDI number. ALDI says that on a compatible Wi-Fi network overseas you make and receive calls at your standard rate, as if you were in Australia, and Mobile Plan customers use their plan's call inclusions. If the Wi-Fi drops mid-call, the phone may switch to the local network and roaming rates start.
- Texts to your ALDI number, such as bank codes, arrive free overseas.
This keeps your number reachable, keeps calls home on your plan over Wi-Fi, and puts data on a plan sized for the trip.
