Which Indonesia plan fits your trip

Indonesia plans come in three shapes, from 1 to 30 days. The plan cards above show what is on sale:

  • Daily data, 0.6 GB or 1.5 GB a day. Suits steady use: maps, ride-hailing, messaging and photos every day.
  • Fixed data, from 20 GB for three days up to 60 GB for two weeks. Use it however you like over the trip, heavy one day and light the next.
  • Unlimited, 3 to 15 days. For heavy users and remote workers in Canggu or Ubud. A fair-use policy applies; the plan details say how.

See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.

Coverage across the islands

Coverage is strong in Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta, across the south of Bali (Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Ubud and the Bukit) and in the main towns of Lombok. It is patchy on the smaller islands, such as the Gili Islands, Nusa Penida and parts of Komodo and Flores, in the mountains and in the national parks, and boats often lose signal mid-crossing. Download offline maps of each island, and save boat tickets and hotel confirmations to your phone.

Arriving at the airport

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. When you land at Bali Ngurah Rai, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta or Lombok, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only and keep it off on your usual SIM. You can then book a Grab or Gojek ride, or message your hotel or driver straight away, instead of queuing at a SIM counter after a long flight.

How much data do you need?

A typical traveler using maps, ride-hailing, messaging and photos uses about 1 GB a day. Video calls, streaming and remote work push that up quickly: a fixed or unlimited plan suits a longer stay in Bali with a laptop.

Visiting more than Indonesia?

The Asia Pacific plan covers Indonesia together with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and other destinations in one install, and the global plans cover it too. They suit a trip that continues across the region: check the country list on the plan before you buy. Compare the cost with your own carrier in travel eSIM vs international roaming.

Networks in Indonesia

Indonesia's main mobile networks are Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and XLSmart, formed in 2025 when XL Axiata and Smartfren merged. Telkomsel has the widest coverage on the outer islands. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.

How to install your eSIM

Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.

  2. Scan the QR code

Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.

Indonesia eSIM questions

Does an Indonesia eSIM work in Bali?

Yes. Bali is part of Indonesia, so every Indonesia plan on this page works there, as do the Asia Pacific and global plans. Coverage is strong across the south of the island, from Seminyak and Canggu to Ubud and the Bukit.

Which eSIM is best for Bali?

For a week or two of maps, Grab or Gojek, messaging and photos, a daily plan of 1.5 GB a day is enough for most travelers. If you work from Canggu or Ubud with a laptop, or stream every day, an unlimited plan is simpler. Our picks at the top of the plans show one of each.

Does the eSIM work on the Gili Islands and Nusa Penida?

Mostly, in the villages and around the harbours. Coverage is patchy on remote beaches, viewpoints and on boats between the islands, so download offline maps before you go.

Do I need to register my phone in Indonesia?

Indonesia requires phones bought abroad to be registered for use on an Indonesian SIM after a short period. A travel eSIM roams on a partner network instead, so a normal visit is not affected.

Can I use it in Singapore or Malaysia too?

An Indonesia plan works in Indonesia only. For a trip across several countries, the Asia Pacific plan covers Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and more with one install.

Will I keep my phone number?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees.

When does the plan start counting days?

On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Indonesia, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
