The best eSIM for the Czech Republic keeps you online from the moment you land in Prague, on the trams and in the old town, and keeps working when the train goes on to Vienna, Berlin, Budapest or Kraków. Every plan here is a Europe or Global eSIM with daily or unlimited data, installed at home before you fly. Your usual number stays on for calls and texts.

Which plan fits a Czech Republic trip
There is no Czech-only plan here. Every plan on this page is a bundle: the Europe plan covers the Czech Republic and 29 other countries, and the Global 75 and Global 170 plans reach further. Your data allowance is shared across every country on the list, so one eSIM, installed once, covers the whole trip. Pick by trip:
- A long weekend or a week in Prague: the 3 or 7 day Europe plan with 1.5 GB a day covers maps, tram tickets, ride apps, messaging and photos. Take the 7 day unlimited plan if you make video calls or work from a café.
- Prague with day trips: the same plans cover Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora and Karlovy Vary, booked and navigated on your phone.
- A Central Europe rail trip: the Europe plan covers Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia too, so Prague to Vienna, Berlin, Budapest or Kraków runs on one eSIM.
- Two weeks or more across the region: the 15 day Europe plan, daily or unlimited.
- A month or longer: the 30 day Europe plan with 1.5 GB a day. Unlimited plans run up to 15 days.
On the daily plans, speed drops sharply once the day's 1.5 GB is used and comes back when the allowance resets. See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.
Prague: the old town, transport and getting around
Prague is where almost every trip starts, and where your phone does the most work:
- Public transport: the PID Lítačka app sells tickets for the metro, trams and buses. It needs data to buy and show the ticket, so buy before you board.
- Rides: Bolt, Uber and Liftago are the usual way to book a car, from the airport or late at night.
- The old town crowds: Charles Bridge, the Old Town Square and the castle are packed on summer days and around the Christmas markets. With thousands of people in a few streets, data can slow down. Agree on a meeting point and download an offline map of the center.
- Tickets for sights: the castle, the Jewish Quarter and popular concerts sell tickets online. Keep them on your phone, saved offline.
By train: day trips and onward to the neighbors
The Czech Republic is a good base for train travel. Trains to Kutná Hora, Karlovy Vary and Brno, and the bus or train to Český Krumlov, can be booked on your phone, and so can the international trains to Vienna, Berlin, Budapest and Kraków. The eSIM works on trains wherever the line has signal, with short drops in tunnels and in some rural stretches. Download your tickets before you board.
Coverage across the Czech Republic
The Czech networks cover the cities, the towns and the main rail lines well. Where it changes:
- Prague, Brno, Český Krumlov and Karlovy Vary: strong across the towns.
- Bohemian Switzerland: the villages are covered; the sandstone gorges and longer trails come and go.
- The Krkonoše and Šumava mountains: covered in the resorts and villages, with gaps on high trails and in the forest.
- Wine country around Mikulov: covered in the villages, thinner on cycle paths between them.
Before a hike or a day in the mountains, download offline maps and tell someone your route.
Arriving in Prague
International flights arrive at Václav Havel Airport, west of the city. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only and keep it off on your usual SIM. You can then buy a transport ticket in the app, book a ride or check the bus to the metro from the arrivals hall.
How much data do you need?
Most visitors use about 1 GB a day for maps, transport and ride apps, messaging and photos. Video calls, streaming and working from a laptop push that up quickly. For a long stay with remote work, look at the unlimited plans.
eSIM or roaming?
Most US carriers charge a daily fee for each day you use your phone in the Czech Republic, or limit what is included: see will my phone work in Europe? and our guides to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Travelers from Canada, the UK and Australia usually pay roaming fees too. If your phone plan is from an EU country, roaming in the Czech Republic is generally charged at home rates for normal use, so you may not need a travel eSIM at all. More in travel eSIM vs international roaming.
Before you go
- Entering the Czech Republic: the Czech Republic is in the Schengen area, where passports are now registered under the EES. Read Entering Europe in 2026.
- Several countries in one trip: eSIM for Europe explains how a multi-country plan works and which countries are on the list.
- Check your phone first: a travel eSIM needs an unlocked phone: how to check.
Networks in Czech Republic
Czechia's mobile networks are O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.
How to install your eSIM
Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.
Check your phone
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.
Scan the QR code
Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.
Czech Republic eSIM questions
What is the best eSIM for the Czech Republic?
It depends on your trip. For a few days or a week in Prague, a daily plan with 1.5 GB a day is enough for most people. If you stream, make video calls or work online, take unlimited. The Europe plan also covers Austria, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, so a rail trip across Central Europe needs no second install.
Does the same eSIM work in Vienna, Berlin, Budapest and Kraków?
Yes. The Czech Republic is sold on our Europe plans, which cover 30 countries including Austria, Germany, Hungary and Poland, so your data keeps working on the train.
How do I buy public transport tickets in Prague?
In the PID Lítačka app, which sells tickets for the metro, trams and buses, or with a contactless card on some routes. The app needs data to buy and show the ticket.
Does mobile data work in Prague's old town?
Yes, but it can slow down on Charles Bridge and in the Old Town Square on busy days, when thousands of people share the same cell towers. Download an offline map and your tickets before you go.
Does it work in Bohemian Switzerland?
In the villages, yes. In the gorges and on the longer trails the signal comes and goes, so download offline maps first.
Will my US phone work in the Czech Republic?
Most recent US phones work on Czech networks. To use a travel eSIM, the phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked: how to check. Your US SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts while the eSIM carries your data, so keep data roaming off on your US line to avoid your carrier's daily fees.
Will I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.
When does the plan start counting days?
On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in a covered country, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
