The best eSIM for Croatia keeps you online from Dubrovnik or Split airport to the last catamaran of the day, and keeps working when your trip carries on to Slovenia or Italy. Every plan here is a Europe or Global eSIM with daily or unlimited data, installed at home before you fly. Your usual number stays on for calls and texts.

Which plan fits a Croatia trip
There is no Croatia-only plan here. Every plan on this page is a bundle: the Europe plan covers Croatia and 29 other countries, and the Global 75 and Global 170 plans reach further. Your data allowance is shared across every country on the list, so one eSIM, installed once, covers the whole trip. Pick by trip:
- A week in Dubrovnik or Split: the 7 day Europe plan with 1.5 GB a day covers maps, ferry and catamaran tickets, ride apps, messaging and photos. Take the 7 day unlimited plan if you make video calls or work from a terrace in Split or Hvar.
- Two weeks down the coast and across the islands: the 15 day Europe plan, daily or unlimited. The daily allowance resets every day, which suits long days of maps and ferry times.
- Croatia with Slovenia, or Istria with Italy: the Europe plan covers both, so Ljubljana, Lake Bled or Trieste run on the same eSIM.
- Dubrovnik with Kotor or Mostar: Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are not on the Europe list. The Global 75 plan covers Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina together, so a day trip to Kotor or Mostar keeps working.
- A month or longer: the 30 day Europe plan with 1.5 GB a day. Unlimited plans run up to 15 days.
On the daily plans, speed drops sharply once the day's 1.5 GB is used and comes back when the allowance resets. See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves.
Island hopping: ferries, catamarans and the coast road
Most visitors spend part of the trip on the water, from Split to Hvar, Brač and Vis, or from Dubrovnik to Korčula and Mljet. Your phone is your ticket, your timetable and your map, so:
- Download your ferry and catamaran tickets to the phone before you leave for the port. The signal comes and goes on crossings, and a QR code in an email you cannot open will not get you on board.
- Check your sailing on the day. Fast catamarans are the first to be delayed or cancelled when the wind and sea get up, and summer sailings fill up. Keep your data on so changes reach you.
- The Dalmatian coast road between Split and Dubrovnik is covered in the towns along it, with gaps on the quiet stretches between. Download an offline map before you drive it.
- Plitvice Lakes: the signal is fine near the entrances and hotels and can drop on the lower trails and boardwalks. Download the park map and your ticket before you go in.
Coverage across Croatia
Croatia's networks cover the cities, the ports and the main resort towns well. Where it changes:
- Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Zagreb and Rovinj: strong across the towns.
- The islands (Hvar, Brač, Korčula, Vis, Krk, Mljet): good in the towns and harbors, weaker in coves reached only by boat and on the far side of hills.
- Istria: good in Pula, Rovinj and the hill towns, thinner on country roads between them.
- National parks and mountains (Plitvice, Krka, Velebit): covered near the entrances and visitor centers, with gaps on the trails.
Before a hike, a long crossing or a drive into the hills, download what you need.
Near Bosnia and Montenegro
Southern Croatia runs along the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, and the coast road between Split and Dubrovnik crosses a short stretch of Bosnia at Neum. In those areas your phone can join a Bosnian or Montenegrin network while you are still in Croatia, or for the few minutes you cross Neum.
- On the Europe plan, data stops working on those networks. Choose a Croatian network by hand in your phone's settings (on iPhone, Settings, then Cellular, then your eSIM, then Network Selection), and it comes back. Switch back to automatic once you are clear of the border.
- On the Global 75 plan, it keeps working on either side, and a day trip to Kotor or Mostar costs nothing extra.
Arriving in Croatia
Most visitors arrive at Dubrovnik, Split or Zagreb, with Zadar and Pula for the northern coast. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only and keep it off on your usual SIM. You can then book a ride, check the shuttle into town or message your apartment host from the arrivals hall.
How much data do you need?
Most visitors use about 1 GB a day for maps, ferry and ride apps, messaging and photos. Uploading lots of video from the beach, video calls and sharing your connection with a laptop push that up quickly. For a long stay with remote work, look at the unlimited plans.
eSIM or roaming?
Most US carriers charge a daily fee for each day you use your phone in Croatia, or limit what is included: see will my phone work in Europe? and our guides to AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Travelers from Canada, the UK and Australia usually pay roaming fees too. If your phone plan is from an EU country, roaming in Croatia is generally charged at home rates for normal use, so you may not need a travel eSIM at all. More in travel eSIM vs international roaming.
Before you go
- Entering Croatia: Croatia joined the Schengen area in 2023, and passports are now registered at Schengen borders under the EES. Read Entering Europe in 2026.
- Day trips out of the EU: Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are outside Schengen, so bring your passport for Kotor or Mostar, and for the Neum stretch of the coast road.
- Several countries in one trip: eSIM for Europe explains how a multi-country plan works and which countries are on the list.
Networks in Croatia
Croatia's mobile networks are Hrvatski Telekom, A1 and Telemach. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.
How to install your eSIM
Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.
Check your phone
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.
Scan the QR code
Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.
Croatia eSIM questions
What is the best eSIM for Croatia?
It depends on your trip. For a week of maps, ferries and photos, a daily plan with 1.5 GB a day is enough for most people. If you stream, make video calls or share your connection, take unlimited. If your trip also takes in Slovenia or Italy, the Europe plan covers them; if it takes in Kotor or Mostar, the Global 75 plan does.
Does the Europe eSIM work in Montenegro and Bosnia?
No. Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are not on the Europe plan's list. The Global 75 plan covers Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina together, so a day trip to Kotor or Mostar keeps working.
Will my data work when the coast road crosses Neum?
Not on the Europe plan, if your phone joins a Bosnian network there. Choose a Croatian network by hand in your phone's settings, or accept a few minutes without data. On the Global 75 plan it keeps working.
Does it work on the ferries and islands?
In the island towns and harbors, yes. On crossings between islands and in remote bays the signal comes and goes, so download your ferry and catamaran tickets before you board.
Does it work at Plitvice Lakes?
Near the entrances and hotels, mostly yes. On the lower trails and boardwalks it can drop, so download the park map before you go in.
Will my US phone work in Croatia?
Most recent US phones work on Croatian networks. To use a travel eSIM, the phone must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked: how to check. Your US SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts while the eSIM carries your data, so keep data roaming off on your US line to avoid your carrier's daily fees.
Will I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.
When does the plan start counting days?
On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in a covered country, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
