Web Summit returns to Lisbon for its 2026 edition, and for four days a large part of the tech world shares one riverside venue and one set of cell towers. This guide covers the dates, the trip from the airport, and how to stay connected while you are there.

Dates and venue

Dates November 9 to 12, 2026
City Lisbon, Portugal
Venue MEO Arena and the exhibition halls around it, Parque das Nações

Dates are from the official Web Summit site, checked in October 2026. The venue map and the daily schedule are published there closer to the event.

From the airport to the venue

Lisbon Airport (LIS) is unusually close to the venue. Parque das Nações sits a short ride north-east of the terminals.

  • Metro. The red line starts at the Aeroporto station, under Terminal 1. Ride it a few stops to Oriente, the station next to the venue. Allow about 15 to 20 minutes including the walk.
  • Taxi or ride-hailing. Taxis wait outside arrivals, and the ride-hailing apps commonly used in Lisbon (such as Uber and Bolt) operate there. Off-peak, the ride is about 10 to 15 minutes. During Web Summit, expect queues and slower traffic around the venue at opening and closing times.
  • On foot within Parque das Nações. Many hotels in the district are within walking distance, which saves a lot of time on busy days.

Have your maps and ride-hailing apps working before you leave the plane: that is the main reason to set up mobile data at home.

Staying connected

The local networks

Portugal's main mobile networks are MEO, NOS, Vodafone and DIGI. A travel eSIM connects to a local partner network, and coverage in central Lisbon and Parque das Nações is strong. Indoor signal in large halls varies by spot, as it does at any venue.

Venue Wi-Fi will be busy

Web Summit provides Wi-Fi, but tens of thousands of people connecting at once can slow any network, especially in keynote rooms and at session changes. Your own mobile data is the backup that matters when you need to load a ticket, reply to a meeting request or join a call.

Hotspotting a laptop

If you plan to work from the venue, hotspot your laptop from your phone rather than waiting for the Wi-Fi. A few things help:

  • Pause automatic cloud backups and app updates on the laptop first, or they will eat your data.
  • Keep the phone plugged into a power bank while it hotspots.
  • Choose a plan with enough data for laptop use. See fixed, daily or unlimited data for how each type behaves.

Bring a power bank

Badges on your phone, maps, messaging and photos drain a battery well before evening. A charged power bank and a short cable are the simplest fix. Outlets at the venue are in demand.

Install before you fly

Install the eSIM at home, on Wi-Fi, on the day you leave, before you go to the airport. Most plans start counting days when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you install it, and each plan states its rule.

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked: the 30-second check.
  2. Install it: iPhone or Android.
  3. When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only.

Which coverage fits

Portugal is part of our Europe region, which covers 30 countries with one eSIM, including Spain, France, Germany, Italy and the UK. That suits a Web Summit trip that adds a few days in Porto, Madrid or a European stopover on the way. More on how it works: eSIM for Europe.

If your home plan already roams in the EU at domestic rates, you may not need a travel eSIM for Portugal at all. Check your fair-use limit before you decide: travel eSIM vs international roaming.

FAQ

Will my phone number still work at Web Summit?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays active for calls and texts, while the eSIM carries your data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming charges.

How much data do I need for four days?

It depends on how you work. Maps, messaging and email use little. Video calls and hotspotting a laptop use much more. If you will work from the venue, pick a plan with room to spare.

Can I get to the venue by public transport from the airport?

Yes. The metro red line runs from the airport to Oriente, next to the venue, in a few stops.

When should I install the eSIM?

Before you fly, on Wi-Fi at home. Installing at the venue means relying on the busy Wi-Fi to do it.
