eSIM for multiple countries: one regional plan, a global plan or two country plans?

For a trip through several countries, one regional eSIM is usually the simplest choice: our Europe plan covers 30 countries, the UK and Switzerland included, from $11.99 for 7 days, and our Global 75 plan covers 73 countries on four continents from $13.99 for 7 days. Two country plans can cost less when your countries sit in different regions, and a short layover rarely needs a plan at all, because airport Wi-Fi is usually enough.

Here is how to pick, with real prices for common routes.

Which plan fits which trip

Your trip Simplest choice Price
Paris, Rome and Barcelona in 12 days Europe, 1.5 GB a day, 15 days $19.99
London and Paris in a week Europe, 1.5 GB a day, 7 days $11.99
A week in Greece, then a week in Turkey Europe 7 days ($11.99) plus Turkey 7 days ($8.99), or Global 75 for 15 days $20.98, or $22.99
A week in Thailand, then a week in Malaysia Thailand 7 days ($6.99) plus Malaysia 7 days ($6.99) $13.98
Europe, then the United States Global 75, 15 days $22.99
Europe, then Mexico Global 170, 15 days $29.99

Prices are our current plans with 1.5 GB of data a day, checked on 22 October 2026. Every destination page shows the plans as they stand.

A regional plan: one install, every border

A regional plan is one eSIM for a list of countries. You install it once at home, and your phone joins a local partner network each time you cross a border. The data is shared across the whole list, with no separate amount per country.

Europe covers 30 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Norway, Iceland and Turkey are not on the list, nor are the Balkan countries outside the EU, such as Serbia, Montenegro and Albania. Plans run from 3 to 30 days at 1.5 GB a day ($11.99 for 7 days, $19.99 for 15), or unlimited from 3 to 15 days ($19.99 for 7 days). Our guide to an eSIM for Europe covers the region in more detail.

Asia Pacific covers 22 destinations, from Japan and South Korea to Thailand, Vietnam, India, Australia and New Zealand: 10 GB for 7 days costs $11.99, and 1.5 GB a day for 30 days $33.99.

A global plan: when your trip crosses regions

When the route leaves one region, a global plan saves you from juggling several eSIMs.

  • Global 75 covers 73 countries on its current list: most of Europe, Norway, Iceland and Turkey included, plus the United States and Canada, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia's main destinations, Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. 1.5 GB a day costs $13.99 for 7 days, $22.99 for 15 and $27.99 for 30. It leaves out Mexico and all of Central and South America.
  • Global 170 adds Latin America and much of Africa and the Middle East: 1.5 GB a day for $17.99 for 7 days or $29.99 for 15, or 5 GB for 30 days at $20.99.

Check the country list on the plan page against every stop before you buy. A plan's name is not a promise that your country is on it.

When two country plans beat one regional plan

A regional or global plan is not always the cheapest. Two country plans win when:

  • Your countries are in different regions and both have cheap country plans. A week in Thailand and a week in Malaysia costs $13.98 on two country plans, against $22.99 for Global 75 for 15 days.
  • One leg is off the regional list. Greece then Turkey: the Europe plan does not cover Turkey, so it is Europe plus Turkey for $20.98, or Global 75 for $22.99 if you prefer one install. The difference is small, so pick by convenience.
  • You spend most of the trip in one country. A plan for the main country plus a short one for the side trip often costs less than a long regional plan.

The one-install convenience of a regional plan is worth something too: no switching lines at the border, and no risk of forgetting the second eSIM.

A layover in Dubai, Doha or Istanbul

For a connection of a few hours inside the airport, you usually do not need any plan. The big transfer hubs offer free terminal Wi-Fi: Dubai Airports describes its Wi-Fi as free and unlimited, and Istanbul Airport's transfer guide says free internet is available to passengers through a mobile login or an access code. Check each airport's own page for the current sign-in steps.

Two things to watch:

  • A plan that covers the layover country starts there. Global 75 includes the UAE, Qatar and Turkey, so if your phone connects during a Dubai stopover, its days start counting then. If that matters, keep data roaming off on the eSIM until your final destination.
  • A long stopover in town is different. If you leave the airport for a day, a one-day plan does the job: 0.6 GB for a day costs $2.99 in the UAE and $1.99 in Turkey.

Using two eSIMs and switching between them

A phone can hold several eSIMs, and most phones run two lines at once. With your home line plus two travel eSIMs, keep your home line on and only one travel eSIM active at a time.

  1. Install both eSIMs at home on Wi-Fi, on the day you leave. Name them clearly, for example "Greece" and "Turkey".
  2. When you land in the first country, set its eSIM as your mobile data line and turn on data roaming for it.
  3. When you cross the border, turn the first eSIM off, turn the second one on, set it as your data line and turn on its data roaming.

On iPhone, all of this is under Settings > Cellular; on Android, in the SIM manager (Samsung) or Settings > Network & internet > SIMs (Pixel). Our install guides for iPhone and Android have the screens, and our guide to fixing an eSIM abroad helps if one will not connect.

Our plans have no top-ups yet. If you run out of data or days, buy a second plan and install it beside the first. For a wider comparison of global and regional plans across providers, see the best eSIM for international travel.

FAQ

Can I use one eSIM in multiple countries?

Yes, with a regional or global plan. Our Europe plan covers 30 countries and Global 75 covers 73, with one install. Your phone joins a local network each time you cross a border, and the data is shared across every country on the list.

Does the Europe eSIM work in Turkey, Norway or Iceland?

No. Our Europe plan covers 30 countries, including the UK and Switzerland, but not Turkey, Norway or Iceland. Global 75 covers all three, or you can add a country plan for that leg.

Is a global eSIM better than a regional one?

Only when your trip crosses regions. For a trip that stays in Europe, the Europe plan costs less: $11.99 for 7 days against $13.99 for Global 75. For Europe then the US, Global 75 covers both with one install.

Do I need an eSIM for a layover?

Usually not. For a few hours in the airport, terminal Wi-Fi is enough at big hubs such as Dubai and Istanbul. If you leave the airport for a day, a one-day plan is enough.

Can I have two eSIMs on one phone?

Yes. A phone can hold several eSIMs, and most run two lines at once. Keep your home line on and switch between the travel eSIMs at each border by turning one off and the other on.

What happens when I cross a border with a regional eSIM?

Nothing you need to do. The phone joins a local partner network in the new country by itself, as long as the country is on the plan's list and data roaming is on for the eSIM.
