Yes: Naples Capodichino airport (NAP) is closed in November 2026 for runway works. The airport has not published exact days, but airlines and the Italian travel press plan around 1 to 30 November, with flights back from 1 December. Some airlines have moved their Naples flights to Salerno Costa d'Amalfi (QSR), about 40 minutes by bus from Salerno station, and others have cancelled or send you through Rome, a little over an hour from Naples by high-speed train.

The airport works are planned at about 24 days, with spare days for rain, so an early reopening is possible but not announced. Check your airline the week before you fly.

Italy is covered by our Europe plans: from $11.99 for 7 days with 1.5 GB a day (EUB7), or $19.99 for 7 days of unlimited data (EUD7), prices as of 22 October 2026. On a rerouted trip, your boarding pass, the bus timetable and the train app all live on your phone.

Is your flight landing in Salerno?

Look at the airport code on your booking, not the city name. NAP is Naples, QSR is Salerno. If the airline moved your flight, the new code is in its schedule change email and in your booking. On a return ticket that straddles the closure, check both legs: you may fly into Salerno and home from Naples, or the other way round.

According to TravelQuotidiano (28 August 2026), these routes fly from Salerno in November:

  • Iberia: Madrid, daily
  • Vueling: Barcelona
  • Transavia: Amsterdam; Transavia France: Paris Orly, daily
  • Eurowings: Düsseldorf and Stuttgart
  • easyJet: Milan Malpensa, daily
  • Luxair: Luxembourg
  • Neos: Sharm el Sheikh, Sundays
  • flydubai: Dubai, daily

If you connect in Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris or Dubai from the US or the UK, your last leg may now land in Salerno. A route that is not on this list may be cancelled for the month rather than moved.

Salerno airport to Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi airport sits outside Salerno, at Pontecagnano. There is no train at the airport, so every trip starts with a bus or a taxi.

  • To Salerno station: the Salerno Airlink bus runs between the terminal and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, opposite Salerno station, in about 40 minutes. The bus costs €5 one way and is sold with a Trenitalia train ticket, on the Trenitalia app or site, by searching "Salerno Aeroporto Costa d'Amalfi" (Trenitalia, Salerno Airlink). Departures follow the flights, so check the November timetable on Busitalia before you fly.
  • To Naples: Airlink to Salerno station, then a regional or high-speed train to Napoli Centrale. Allow for the wait between the two.
  • To Pompeii and Sorrento: from Naples, the Circumvesuviana local train (EAV) runs from Napoli Garibaldi, under Napoli Centrale, to Pompei Scavi and on to Sorrento.
  • To Amalfi, Positano and Ravello: from Salerno, SITA buses run along the coast road to Amalfi, with connections on to Positano and Ravello. Many coastal ferries stop or thin out from early November, so do not count on a boat from Salerno; check the operator's winter timetable. A taxi or a private transfer from the airport is the simplest option with luggage.

Or fly into Rome instead

Rome Fiumicino (FCO) has the widest choice of flights from the US and the UK, and the train to Naples is fast:

  1. Leonardo Express from the airport to Roma Termini: 32 minutes, non stop, €14 (Trenitalia).
  2. Frecciarossa or Italo from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale: a little over an hour on the fastest trains, with departures through the day.

Our Rome Fiumicino guide covers getting online when you land. Watch the strike dates: a CGIL national general strike falls on Friday 20 November 2026, and rail staff strike from 21:00 on 20 November to 20:00 on Saturday 21 November. EAV, which runs the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii and Sorrento, is on strike all day on 21 November. Rome to Naples trains are at risk on both days; see our Italy strike calendar for the hours and the guaranteed trains.

Capri, Ischia and Procida

The islands are not affected. Only the airport is closed: ferries and hydrofoils to Capri, Ischia and Procida keep leaving from the Naples ports (Molo Beverello for the fast boats, Calata Porta di Massa for the slower car ferries) on their usual winter timetables. Sea conditions cancel crossings more often in November, so keep a spare day before your flight home.

Your rights if your flight was moved or cancelled

EU Regulation 261/2004 covers flights leaving an EU airport, and flights into the EU on an EU airline. UK261 gives the same rights on flights from the UK.

  • Moved to Salerno or Rome: Article 8(3) says that when an airline offers you a flight to another airport serving the same city or region, it bears "the cost of transferring the passenger from that alternative airport", either to the airport you booked or to another nearby destination you agree with (Regulation 261/2004, Article 8). Keep the bus, train or taxi receipts and claim them.
  • Cancelled: you choose between a full refund, rerouting at the earliest opportunity, or rerouting at a later date that suits you, according to the EU's Your Europe guide. A Naples to Rome rerouting counts.
  • Compensation: no. The cash compensation of €250 to €600 is not due when you were told of the cancellation at least two weeks before departure (Article 5(1)(c)(i)), and this closure was announced months ahead.
  • Not happy with Salerno? If the new airport does not work for you, ask the airline for rerouting through Rome or a refund instead. Do it in writing and keep the reply.

A United, Delta or American flight into Rome is not covered by EU261 on the way in, as they are not EU airlines; their own conditions apply.

Practical tips

  • Download the apps before you fly: your airline and Trenitalia or Italo, and bookmark EAV's site for the Circumvesuviana. Rebooking a cancelled leg is far easier in an app than in a queue.
  • Buy the Airlink ticket on your phone on landing, with the train to Naples on the same booking.
  • Leave a buffer between landing in Salerno or Rome and any ferry, tour or dinner booking.
  • Your phone in Italy: US carriers charge by the day (Verizon and AT&T $12 a day per line) and T-Mobile's included data is slow; many UK networks charge a daily EU fee, while some UK plans include EU roaming. Our guide Will my phone work in Italy? compares them.

Staying online in Italy

A travel eSIM gives you mobile data from the moment you land in Salerno or Rome, without a daily roaming fee. You install it before you fly, the days start when it first connects in Italy, and your own number stays on your main line for calls and texts. Italy is included in our Europe plans, so one eSIM also covers a connection through Paris, Madrid or Amsterdam. The QR code arrives by email within minutes, with one-tap install links for iPhone and Android. Compare plans on our Italy eSIM page.

FAQ

Is Naples airport closed in November 2026?

Yes. Naples Capodichino airport (NAP) is closed in November 2026 for runway works, according to the airport. Airlines plan around 1 to 30 November, with flights back from 1 December 2026.

What are the exact dates of the Naples airport closure?

The airport's own page says only "November 2026". Airlines and the Italian travel press work with 1 to 30 November, and ENAC has the final say on the days. The works are planned at about 24 days, so an early reopening is possible but not announced.

Which airlines fly to Salerno instead of Naples in November?

Iberia, Vueling, Transavia, Transavia France, Eurowings, easyJet (from Milan Malpensa), Luxair, Neos and flydubai, according to TravelQuotidiano. Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss are reported to have cancelled their Naples flights for the month.

How do I get from Salerno airport to Naples?

Take the Salerno Airlink bus to Salerno station (about 40 minutes, €5, sold with a Trenitalia train ticket), then a train to Napoli Centrale.

Is it better to fly into Rome than Salerno?

From the US or the UK, often yes: Rome Fiumicino has more flights, the Leonardo Express reaches Roma Termini in 32 minutes, and high-speed trains reach Naples in a little over an hour. Check the rail strikes called for 20 and 21 November before you book the train.

Can I get compensation if my Naples flight was cancelled?

No compensation is due when you were told at least two weeks before departure, which is the case for this closure. You still choose between a refund and rerouting, and if the airline moves you to Salerno or Rome it must pay your transfer to Naples or a nearby destination you agree.

Can I still take the ferry to Capri in November?

Yes. Ferries and hydrofoils to Capri, Ischia and Procida keep running from the Naples ports; only the airport is closed. Winter timetables are lighter and the sea cancels some crossings.

Facts checked on 22 October 2026 against Naples airport (GESAC), TravelQuotidiano, AirHelp, Trenitalia, the Italian strike register, EU Regulation 261/2004 and the EU's Your Europe portal. Airline schedules change: check your booking the week before you fly.
