Which plan fits your trip
Denmark is sold on our Europe plans, which cover it together with 29 other European countries, Sweden, Germany and the United Kingdom included, in one install. The plan cards above show the days and data on sale:
- Daily data suits steady use: maps, train times, messages and photos every day. A Copenhagen city break or a rail trip across Scandinavia is steady from day to day, so this is the usual pick.
- Unlimited suits heavy users, video calls and remote work. A fair-use policy applies; the plan details say how.
See fixed, daily or unlimited for how each type behaves, and eSIM for Europe if Denmark is one stop on a longer trip.
The Faroe Islands, Greenland and Norway
The Faroe Islands and Greenland belong to the Danish realm but are not on our Europe plan's list, and neither is Norway. The Faroe Islands and Norway are covered by the global plans further down. Greenland is not covered by any of our plans at the moment, so plan to use your hotel's Wi-Fi there or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you go.
Landing in Copenhagen
International flights arrive at Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup, and the metro reaches the city centre in about 15 minutes. Install the eSIM at home while you are on your own Wi-Fi, then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line once you are off the plane. You can then plan your journey and buy a ticket on your phone before you reach the platform.
Getting around
Rejseplanen plans journeys on trains, the metro and buses across the country, and tickets for Copenhagen's metro, trains and buses can be bought in the DOT app. Denmark is close to cashless, so most things, from a bike rental to a pastry, are paid by card or phone. All of it works over mobile data.
Coverage
Coverage in Denmark is strong almost everywhere: in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg, on the trains, on the Øresund bridge to Malmö and across the islands and the countryside. Expect brief gaps only on some ferry crossings and on remote stretches of the west coast of Jutland.
How much data do you need?
A typical traveler using maps, messaging and photos uses about 1 GB a day. Video calls, streaming and working from a laptop push that up, so remote workers are better served by an unlimited plan.
Networks in Denmark
Denmark's mobile networks are TDC, Telenor, Telia and 3. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.
How to install your eSIM
Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.
Check your phone
Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.
Scan the QR code
Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.
Switch on when you land
Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.
Denmark eSIM questions
Is an eSIM cheaper than my own carrier's roaming in Denmark?
Usually, yes. US and Australian carriers typically charge a daily pass for each day you use your phone abroad, and since Brexit many UK plans charge a daily fee in Europe too. Over a week those passes add up to more than a plan here. Check your own plan's roaming terms to compare.
Does the same eSIM work in Sweden and Germany?
Yes. Denmark is sold on our Europe plans, which cover 30 countries including Sweden and Germany, so your data keeps working on the train to Malmö, Stockholm or Hamburg.
Does the Europe plan cover the Faroe Islands, Greenland or Norway?
No. None of them is on our Europe plan's list. The Faroe Islands and Norway are covered by our global plans; Greenland is not covered by any of our plans at the moment.
Which apps do I need for Copenhagen?
Rejseplanen to plan journeys and the DOT app for metro, train and bus tickets. Denmark is close to cashless, so most things are paid by card or phone.
Will I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.
When does the plan start counting days?
On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in a covered country, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
