Buying a SIM card after arrivals

SIM cards are sold landside in the Terminal 1 arrivals area, after baggage claim, mostly by currency exchange offices and phone accessory booths that resell Vodafone and other prepaid SIMs. We could not confirm an operator-run store in the terminal, so ask at the information desk if you cannot find a counter.

Bring your passport and an unlocked phone. TIM Tourist costs 14.99 euros for 30 days plus 10 euros for the SIM, 24.99 euros in total, with 200 GB of data in Italy (23 GB of it usable elsewhere in the EU) and unlimited national calls (checked October 2026). It is for new TIM customers and is sold at TIM points of sale.

eSIM plans for Italy

Install one at home before you fly and you are online when the wheels touch down, with no queue at a SIM counter.

Mobile networks in Italy

Italy has four mobile networks: TIM, Vodafone, WindTre and Iliad. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. All four cover the cities and the main transport routes; differences show up in the countryside, the mountains and on the islands. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.

Tips for staying connected

  • If the Wi-Fi is slow, move to another spot in the terminal.
  • Airport resellers usually charge more than operator shops in Milan. If you only need data for the ride into town, the free Wi-Fi or an eSIM installed before you fly is cheaper.
