Which Brazil plan fits your trip

Brazil plans come in two shapes. The plan cards above show the days and data on sale:

  • Daily data suits steady use: maps, rides, WhatsApp and photos every day. Most city and beach trips are steady from day to day, so this is the usual pick.
  • Unlimited suits heavy users: video calls, streaming, or remote work from Florianópolis or a beach house in Bahia. A fair-use policy applies; the plan details say how.

Landing in Brazil

Most international flights arrive at Guarulhos in São Paulo or Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. Install the eSIM at home while you are on your own Wi-Fi, then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line once you are off the plane. You can then book a ride or message your host before you reach the exit, without looking for a counter or a working airport network.

WhatsApp is how Brazil talks

Hotels, guesthouses, tour guides, restaurants and even shops in Brazil expect to be reached on WhatsApp. With mobile data you can confirm a pickup, book a table or change a tour as you go, so keep the data on for the whole trip. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and 99 are the usual way to get around the big cities.

Coverage in a very big country

Coverage is strong in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Recife, Florianópolis and the other large cities, and along the main coastal resorts. Brazil is huge, and it thins out quickly away from them: in the Amazon outside Manaus, in the Pantanal, in Lençóis Maranhenses, in Chapada Diamantina and on long highways between states. Download offline maps and save your tickets and bookings to the phone before a trip into nature.

How much data do you need?

A typical traveler using maps, ride-hailing, messaging and photos uses about 1 GB a day. Video calls, streaming and working from a laptop push that up, so remote workers are better served by an unlimited plan.

Networks in Brazil

Brazil's mobile networks are Vivo, the largest, Claro and TIM. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.

How to install your eSIM

Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.

  2. Scan the QR code

Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.

Brazil eSIM questions

Is an eSIM cheaper than my own carrier's roaming in Brazil?

Usually, yes. UK, US and Australian carriers typically charge a daily pass for each day you use your phone abroad, and over a week those passes add up to more than a plan here. Check your own plan's roaming terms to compare.

Should I buy a SIM card in Brazil instead?

For data, an eSIM is simpler: you set it up at home, skip the queue in arrivals and keep your usual SIM in the phone. A Brazilian SIM gives you a local number, which a travel eSIM does not, but registering one as a visitor takes a passport and some time in a shop. For maps and messaging, the eSIM does the job.

Does it work in Rio, São Paulo and on the coast?

Yes. Coverage is strong in the big cities and the main beach towns. It can drop in the Amazon, the Pantanal, national parks and on long highways, so download offline maps before trips into nature.

Can I use Uber, 99 and WhatsApp with it?

Yes. The eSIM gives you mobile data, so ride-hailing apps, WhatsApp, Google Maps and your banking apps work as they do at home. Calls on WhatsApp and FaceTime work over the data too.

Is unlimited worth it in Brazil?

If you stream, make video calls every day or work online, yes. For maps, messaging and photos, a daily plan gives you enough data for less.

Will I keep my phone number?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.

When does the plan start counting days?

On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Brazil, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
