Which plan fits your trip

The Bahamas is sold on our global plans, which cover it together with more than 160 other countries in one install, the United States and the Turks and Caicos Islands included. The plan cards above show the days and data on sale:

  • The one-day plan suits a cruise stop in Nassau, Freeport or Bimini.
  • Daily data suits a resort week or an island-hopping trip: messages, photos, maps and the odd video call home.

Arriving by air or by sea

Most visitors fly into Lynden Pindling International in Nassau or arrive on a cruise ship docking in Nassau or Freeport. Install the eSIM at home while you are on your own Wi-Fi, then turn on data roaming for the eSIM line when you arrive. On a cruise, switch it on once the ship is in port, and keep data roaming off on your usual SIM: at sea, ships use their own satellite service, which a travel eSIM does not cover and your home carrier may bill at a high rate.

Resorts and the islands

Resorts on Paradise Island and Cable Beach usually have Wi-Fi, but it is often strongest in the lobby and weaker on the beach. Coverage is good across Nassau, Paradise Island and Grand Bahama, and in the main settlements of the Out Islands, such as George Town in the Exumas. It thins out between cays, on remote beaches and on boat trips to the swimming pigs and sandbars of the Exumas. Save your boat and tour bookings to the phone before you head out.

How much data do you need?

A typical traveler using maps, messaging and photos uses about 1 GB a day. Video calls, streaming by the pool and sharing your connection push that up, so pick the larger daily allowance if you stream or work.

Networks in Bahamas

The Bahamas' mobile networks are BTC and Aliv. A travel eSIM connects to one of them as a roaming partner, which is why data roaming must be on for the eSIM line. The partner network can differ from plan to plan, so check the plan details, or ask us at support@esimlounge.com before you buy.

How to install your eSIM

Install it at home before you fly, then switch it on when you land.

  1. Check your phone

Your phone must support eSIM and be carrier unlocked. Most phones from the last few years do.

  2. Scan the QR code

Scan the code from your email while you still have Wi-Fi at home. It takes about two minutes.

  3. Switch on when you land

Turn on the eSIM line and data roaming for it. Keep your usual SIM for calls and texts if you like.

Bahamas eSIM questions

Is an eSIM cheaper than my own carrier's roaming in the Bahamas?

Usually, yes. UK, US and Australian carriers typically charge a daily pass for each day you use your phone abroad, and over a week those passes add up to more than a plan here. Check your own plan's roaming terms to compare.

Does it work on a cruise stop in Nassau?

Yes, in port and near the coast, when the phone can reach a land network. At sea the ship uses its own satellite service, which the eSIM does not cover, so keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid the ship's charges.

Does it work in the Exumas and Out Islands?

In the main settlements, yes. Between cays, on remote beaches and on boat trips the signal comes and goes, so save your bookings before you leave.

Can I use the same eSIM in the United States or Turks and Caicos?

Yes, if the countries are on the plan's list. The Bahamas is sold on our global plans, which include the United States and the Turks and Caicos Islands, so one install covers a trip through all of them.

Will I keep my phone number?

Yes. Your usual SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts, and the eSIM carries your mobile data. Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM to avoid roaming fees from home.

When does the plan start counting days?

On most plans the days start when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, not when you install it. The plan details say how yours works.
